The Flip - a Flop! September 8, 2008 Seemed like a great idea. My husband, quite difficult to please, LOVED his birthday present - the Flip MINO. First problem was how to attach the wrist cord (very brief instructions; it's the new thing - go find the how-to guide on the internet), but he mastered that. The size is great, the quality of the picture - surprisingly good, and it was simple to use. We even downloaded to e-mail and bored our friends with our test results. Then we tried to watch it on TV, using the attached cable. Nothing! We had sound and a scrambled picture and their technical assistant could not help us. And then - the lights on the back wouldn't go off, and we couldn't use the Flip. Called another techie and was told to stick a pin in the pin hole in the bottom, which we did. It re-set everything. But the problem occurred every time we used the Flip: the lights stayed on and it stopped working. The battery kept charging when we tried that as a solution. We gave up and sent it back (thanks to Amazon, returns are always simple). Would like to try it again, but I'm nervous about this problem and the overall quality of the product.
New Product Has Defective Battery---I Hope September 8, 2008 This Flip Camcorder has a built-in, rechargeable battery that needs to be replaced, and I have to send it back to the factory to correct the problem. Very Inconvenient! It is still under a 90 day warranty and they are suppose to give me a working cam without any charge. It is very frustrating to buy a cam, take it on vacation with hopes you will get lots of great videos, but the darn thing doesn't work. It worked for about 30 minutes and then shut down. It appears that the battery is weak and defective because it won't take a charge. Strange that this wasn't discovered in testing before being sent out to the public. Who was suppose to have caught this, the battery manufacturer or the camcorder people? Regardless, I will not give this product a favorable rating until I get a good one in my hand so I can use it. Until then, I give it the lowest rating.
Easy to use for us technically challenged September 8, 2008 I really really love my Flip! Its so easy to use. The film resolution is really wonderful for such a little thing. The buttons in the back are flat and easy to maneuver. The transfer from Flip to computer is a breeze. You can also down load your video straight to Youtube. It's easy to delete any footage you may have on the Flip. They only down side is that there is no light on the Flip so the area you are filming has to be well lighted, but other then that there is no downside. Even their customer support is wonderful. I had to contact their support center and the customer service department were knowledgeable and incredibly nice. For those of you that are technically challenged and are looking for something non complicating but still something with quality in film, this would be your ticket. I would recommend this to you as I do to anyone else.
Marvelous Mino September 7, 2008 As small as most cell phones. So easy to use. Love it. Only thing I do not like as well as my Ultra is the Mino is a hard cover and scratches show up really easy on the body. The Ultra (blk) had a soft body that was nice, easy to hold. The touch features are much better and not having to replace batteries...Wow! I would like to see Flip come up with a better strap for all their cameras.
Good for PC not good for mac September 6, 2008 I love this camera for it's ease of use. I use it primarily for quick videos for work and for personal. My 9 year old nephew loves it as well, and can run the whole thing himself no problem.
Unfortunately it is not plug-and-play for mac OX10 and the new iMovie does not recognize the the file types. Apparently if you tweak some settings and do some conversions it works. But that sort of kills the whole point of an easy to use camera. I haven't had time to mess with it, so I can't use it with my mac, but it is quick and easy on the PC (XP operating system)
