5 out of 5 stars Superior Layout   June 24, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

The Kensington keyboard layout is about as tidy and compact as possible in a full featured board with numerical pad. Typing is smooth and uncramped. The keyboard is slim, but seems ruggedly built and of high quality. Attractive design and minimal footprint makes for a clear improvement over traditional standard keyboards.

4 out of 5 stars Great buy, but look at pics - layout takes some getting used to.   June 19, 2008
I originally bought this just looking for a quieter keyboard and it was the right price. It is indeed much quieter (but not silent) than a standard keyboard, and looks nice. I am fond of products that support hot-plugging as well. I would recommend this keyboard to anyone really, BUT, if you're not used to the slim type "travel" keyboards, make sure you take a close look at the key layout. I never had a keyboard with this setup before and since I am used to working 10-hour days on my full-sized Logitech keyboard, it had quite a steep learning curve. I am still a month later losing the backspace key and accidentally hitting the delete key. The arrow keys are placed in an odd location, though thats not TOO hard to get used to. The left alt key took some real getting used to though, as well as the F-keys. I am STRONGLY advising against trying to play pc games with this (personally I use the F-keys, alt-tab, alt-shift, and arrow keys very often). This has nowhere near the preferred gaming setup.

Learning curve aside, the keys feel nice and solid, and the silver lining is gorgeous. If you are finicky about your keyboard getting dirty, you might want to grab some extra wipes for this one ... the silver gets all 'finger printy' pretty easily (probably due to my stubborn, lost fingers). The submitted photos are very helpful, I thank the user who submitted them and highly suggest taking a good look at them if you intend to purchase this keyboard--gamers in particular.

4 out of 5 stars Okay for the price   May 29, 2008
It is more like a laptop keyboard than a regular PC keyboard which may have been stated in the description. I wouldn't have purchased it if I was aware because it is harder to type on than a typical PC keyboard that has the keys more defined.

4 out of 5 stars Works great, could use more hotkeys   May 20, 2008

I love the silent strokes. This keyboard feels very durable. The silver plastic lining creates a nice shine. I would use it over my digital media pro keyboard from MS if it had hot keys. I use this keyboard for long hours of essays; not much effort is needed to press these buttons.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Keyboard, No More Complaining Coworkers!   May 2, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

My company recently moved to a new office, and I am now sitting in a cube farm where you can hear a pin drop.

I am a Technical Writer, which means I am typing all day, every day. Within the first two days of moving to the new office, I began to hear complaints like, "WOW! You type so loudly! Are you hitting the keys with sledgehammers??"

So, apparently I type loudly. Probably because I type about 80wpm with only 2 or three fingers. I never learned to properly touch type.

Anyway... I purchased this keyboard because it has the same type of spring-action keys that a laptop keyboard has, but it's a regular keyboard. It is great! It's certainly not silent, but compared with the standard-issue Dell keyboard I had before, it's about 10 times more quiet.

I considered a silicone roll-up keyboard, but read a lot of reviews that said the keys don't always register the keystrokes evenly. Not so with THIS keyboard... it has a satisfying springy feel to the keys, and registers everything just fine.

I have this keyboard on a wide keyboard tray designed to hold a keyboard and mouse (the kind that mounts under a desk and slides out: 3M Adjustable Keyboard Tray Model Number AKT90LE). I am using the keyboard and mouse together and it fits nicely... this keyboard is *slightly* narrower than the standard-issue Dell keyboard I had before.

I also love the silver buttons along the top that control the Play, Forward and Back, Volume, Calculator, and Sleep functions. I actually use these keys often. The keyboard came with an insert that explained how to set up the sleep function if it doesn't work right out of the box. The instructions on the insert did the trick, and I put my machine to sleep each evening when I leave the office.

The ONLY minor annoyance with this keyboard is that the back feet that pop out to prop the keyboard at an angle are small, so the angle isn't quite as high as the angle I am used to. It's fine though, and I have gotten used to it.

Overall, if you are looking for a quieter (not silent) keyboard, and/or you like the feeling of laptop-style spring-action keys, buy this keyboard.

It's also very attractive... black with a sleek silver border. My coworkers are now happy with the reduced noise, and a little bit jealous of my cool looking new keyboard! :)
