Use the touch screen interface to select destinations, look up POIs, and play your favorite MP3s and audio books. The display also helps you control hands-free calling, traffic alerts, and the FM transmitter, all from the screen of your personal travel assistant. Which nuevi is Best for You?: Click here to see a quick, simple comparison of features for all Garmin nuvi GPS navigators Wider screen lets you see more of what's around. Compare these actual size views of a 3-inch (diagonal) screen and a 4.3-inch diagonal widescreen | Widescreen -- See Better, See More The widescreen format gives you 70% more actual screen area than a 3.5-inch screen. Primarily this translates into a better view of the area through which you are driving. This is especially useful in showing you what parks, restaurants, ATM, gas stations, etc. are nearby, or in letting you know whether a detour is a good idea. Also, the device itself is larger, meaning controls on the screen are more widely spaced and somewhat easier to push. FM Transmitter -- Hear Better, Hear More Instead of straining your ears to hear turn-by-turn directions or your favorite MP3s, you can enjoy wireless FM audio transmission via the nuevi 660's wireless FM transmitter. Tune your car's radio to the appropriate station and you'll hear all the nuevi's audio, including voice prompts, MP3s, audio books, and more, directly through your vehicle's stereo system. The nuevi 660 includes many "must-have" entertainment and travel tools, including digital music and audio book playback, JPEG picture viewer, currency converters, and more. All these great features make the nuevi 660 a complete Personal Travel Assistant. First Rate Map Data The nuevi 660 comes ready to go right out of the box with preloaded City Navigator NT street maps, including a hefty POI database with hotels, restaurants, fuel, ATMs and more. Simply touch the color screen to enter a destination, and nuevi takes you there with 2D or 3D maps and turn-by-turn voice directions. Garmin gets its map data from NAVTEQ, a world leader in premium-quality mapping. In addition, the nuevi 660 accepts custom points of interest (POIs), such as school zones and safety cameras and lets you set proximity alerts to warn you of upcoming POIs Important note about map updates: Due to our high volume of sales, almost every Garmin portable GPS navigator sold by Amazon.com will come with the most recent map version. If you ever do need a map update, you can purchase one from Amazon.com at our Garmin Store. Hands-Free Calling In more and more places, it is becoming illegal to use cell phones while driving without a hands-free kit. The nuevi 660's Bluetooth capability, microphone and speaker lets match it to any bluetooth-capable phone to make hands-free mobile phone calls. Simply dial the phone number with the nuevi's touch screen keypad to make a call on a compatible phone. To answer an incoming call, just tap the screen and speak into the built-in microphone. Making and taking calls on the road has never been easier, or safer. In addition, Garmin makes it a breeze to look-up and dial numbers from your personalized phone book or even tap into your cell phone's call history log. Integrated FM Traffic Receiver | Steer clear of traffic with an integrated FM traffic receiver designed to receive alerts from TMC Clear Channel about traffic tie-ups and road construction that might lie ahead on your route. All you have to do is simply touch the screen to view traffic details and you'll be ready to detour around any problem area. And if you end up missing a turn, or you're forced into a detour that is not relayed through the traffic receiver, the nuevi's sophisticated automatic routing will get you back on track in no time. In most areas, TMC Clear Channel traffic broadcasts are continuous there's no waiting for scheduled traffic news updates or random alerts. Because traffic broadcasts are received via a "silent" FM data channel, you can still listen to music or news programming on your car radio without interference from incoming FM traffic data transmissions. A 3-month subscription to TMC Clear Channel's Total Traffic Network is included with purchase of this device. For more information on subscription fees, coverage in individual cities, and traffic data networks in the United Kingdom and Europe, check the Garmin website. | Easy To Use Interface Garmin's interface is a key to their success and one of the things that makes their devices such a pleasure to use. Simple controls and sub-screens make it easy to enter or search for destinations and get data about your trip. Beyond Navigation Browse your stored pictures with an easy-to-use JPEG viewer. | A handy MP3 player lets you play songs stored on SD memory cards. | nuevi 250W accepts custom points of interest (POIs). Don;t leave home without it July 4, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is my first GPS. We took a trip to seattle and oregon and it was the best thing that we could have taken with us. We used it to find restaurants and hotels. I love this thing. I think it saved us a lot of time and made our trip more fun and carefree. I also like the bluetooth feature. I think it works well and I use it every time I'm in the car.
50% accurate July 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought the 660 for use on a trip to Arizona and Las Vegas. It is a great tool with many faults. It's great when it works. And it worked 50% of the time for us. I just got it in June but maybe it needed a map update which I didn't think I needed since I just purchased it. Frustrations: *It took 2-3 minutes to aquire sattelite everytime I turned it on. By then we are on the road already hoping we were going in the right direction. *After punching in a particular restaurant like "claim jumper" in Las Vegas, it lead us directly across the high way from it. *It says stay left on highway and then it says to take the next exit on the right. By that time I didn't have enough time to get to the right to take the appropriate exit. *It has led us on some wild goose chases. Ending up at construction sites or to places that are no longer in business. *If there is a delay in your route due to traffic or an accident, It would not let me see what the next step is or the next turn would be after that. I had to wait to pass the delay. Maybe there is a way around this that i have not figured out. *the voice on the system is a little difficult to understand at times. Especially in hawaii where it can't pronounce our street names so it spells it out instead. Pros: *When it works and actually gets us to where we want to go it's great.
Not impressed.... July 3, 2008 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
No physical volume control ON unit... big minus. Needs MSN direct with gas prices being such an issue. Also, unit I received would get confused and completely lock-up, forcing me to reboot. I returned it and opted for the C580 and am very pleased now. Sure, it is a bigger and bulkier unit but it does more AND it is over a $100 cheaper. That is a lot of scrath now-a-days!
Prior Tom Tom owner in love with NUVI July 2, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
First of all if your a first time GPS owner don't compare reviews of an older competitors model with a current model from another manufacturer. It's not fair because the technology is growing exponentially.
Having said that I have/had a Tom Tom 910. Stopped working and Tom Tom's customer support is a disgrace. If your interested , see my review for the 910. Tom Tom eventually sent me a re-furbished unit for replacement, but obviously the unit was never checked because it had the prior owner's photos on it and was based in Kinsale Ireland. Tried for over three hours to re-set the replacement but to no avail. I'm sure if I could have contacted Tom Tom's customer support the problem could have been fixed, but Tom Tom's customer support is only now open from 8:30 to 7:00 so don't get lost or have a problem with your unit outside bankers hours.
The NUVI is much more user friendly and really really quick. The traffic avoidance system is awesome and seems to be constantl re-calibrating. Colors are brighter. Saving favorites is a snap etc.
Again don't compare features for a current NUVI to an older or Tom Tom vice versa. but customer support transcends model changes and model years, and I could not be more disppointed with Tom Tom
An excellent GPS! July 1, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After researching the various kinds of GPS systems on the market, I purposed this system. It was an excellent choice! The instructions are clear, and the GPS system is extremely easy to use: it is logical and aesthetically pleasing all at once! One can actually use it with little or no instruction after taking it out of the box I highly recommend this product.
