This CD is probably not going to appeal to everyone. Linda Hornbuckle is plucked right out of the gospel tradition. Amazing Grace and Don't let Temptation Turn You Around do not have gospel roots -- they ARE gospel, in some kind of live performance. The blues band that backs up the blues tunes is hard-core blues. So when the two are put together -- it is not going to be everyone's cup of tea. To make things a little weirder, not all of the tunes are equally well rehearsed. But when it works it REALLY cooks. Baby I Love You and I Can't Stop will rock your socks off. My personal favorite is: I Can't Stand The Rain. It really captures that rain thing -- big time.
I think the thing I like best about this CD is that it really captures that moment in the life a band where everything is new again. You really get the feeling that everyone in this band is rising above themselves. This is not just another gig. These folks are in a new place. They wont be there for long and they can't return, but when it is captured -- it is magic. One of my favorites. Recommended.
