Leaking top August 16, 2008 The coffee maker was just what we wanted but the top of the carafe leaked on the first one. There is a plastic ring with the pour spout and it leaked between that and the glass. Oh well, Amazon sent a replacement and it seems to be fine so far so we are happy. Thank you for the great service Amazon.
Very nice upgrades June 28, 2008 I was a little apprehensive after some of the reviews...I guess there are a lot of people who just can't use tools out there. I thought the install was like shootin' fish in a barrel. The template is perfect, the new styling is attractive and functional. We had the older model for 8 or 9 years, I couldn't even count how many thousands of pots of coffee we must have put through it. The new one actually was much easier to install than the old one, I just hope it lasts as long. One note on the over flow problem...it's the "sneak-a-cup" feature...just take off the little lever on the bottom of the grounds basket, that disables the "sneak-a-cup" feature, but it won't over flow any more. Or...just make SURE the carafe is fully inserted and seated, you'll actually feel it click into place. Way to go Black & Decker!
GREAT June 15, 2008 I just want say the B&D ODC440B Spacemaker Coffee Pot is absolutely GREAT! My husband did modify the installation due to the reviews, but that was it. After reading some of the reviews before I purchased, I must say I was hesitant; but I had to replace my 20 year old B&D under the cabinet maker, so I took the chance.
Coffee Pot June 12, 2008 It broke within 2 weeks of using it, so I ordered another one, thinking it was a fluke. The second one quit working in a week and a half!
This coffeemaker = Junk June 2, 2008 We bought this coffeemaker I would guess about a year ago. Basically stated, I hate the thing. 2 reasons. First, which is not really a big deal, is that the coffeemaker is programmed to turn off after two hours. There is no way to adjust this setting. It is set by the manufacturer and you are not allowed to disable this feature. You cannot leave it on later than that unless you physically turn it off and then turn it on again. Your then good to go for another two hours, granted the coffee is getting pretty old by then. Ok, now for the major complaint and why this coffeemaker is destined for the dump. It has an unusual feature behind the carafe (coffee pitcher) that is basically a lever that is pushed in when the coffee pitcher is in place. This lever controls the aperture that the water flows through from the basket where the coffee grounds and water mix. If the pitcher is not placed on the hot plate ever so carefully then the aperture to the basket remains closed and when turn on to make a pot of freshly made coffee the water does not flow as it is suppose to. What happens next is truly why I believe this is a piece of junk. The water backs up in the coffee basket and then begins to leak out all over the kitchen counter - water, coffee, grounds - it is a mess. OK your thinking that I am a idiot and that I cannot operate a coffeemaker. Fair enough, but I will tell you that the lever, aperture, carafe feature on the coffeemaker is so touchy that if you are not diligent 100% of the time eventually you will be left with a mess to clean up. If you decide to get this coffeemaker anyway then good luck. Better yet, I will give you mine. My suggestion is to do a little more research and find a better, more reliable solution to this ever so important morning ritual of coffee making.
