Stylish Phone that barely works June 25, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This phone looks great. It worked for about 6 months then started dropping calls, the phone would say "searching for base." If I put the phone in the cradle for about 10 minutes it would work again sometimes for a day or two sometimes for a phone call or two -- it was never predictable. This problem increased over time then it started "searching for base" every time I picked the phone up off the cradle.
I tried replacing the batteries, the troubleshooting section of the manual, the Vtech website nothing about fixing this problem. This was just a poor performing phone. A friend who works at an electronic store told me a lot of customers who return this phone complain about dropped calls and the same "searching for base" problem.
Avoid this phone unless you enjoy frustration.
"searching for base" nightmare May 19, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I loved it when I saw it, but after a while I realized the poor quality of this phone. It happened to me several times... I'm on the phone and all of the sudden I get disconnected, because the handset is searching for the base. Very frustrating! It's beautiful, but useless. Spend your money in something else.
If the stars could go into the negatives, this would be a -5 stars. April 19, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This phone sucks, plain and simple. I bought this phone in July 2006, it is now April 2008 and my phones are rendered useless. They always display that "Searching for Base" message and I'm constantly getting dropped calls. When I'm actually successful at carrying on a phone conversation the person on the other line EVERY time says something like, "Uh, your phone is making some strange noises and I can't hear you."
This piece of garbage is not worth the price.
It was cute for about 18 months then it started to DIE.
Vtech webite is not helpful at all. I don't even want to waste money on new batteries!
Caller ID problems April 12, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have actually had two of these phones. The first one I returned because the caller ID seemed to only display the caller about 60% of the time. After about a year I decided to try it again - mostly because I loved the looks of this phone. I have been using it now for nearly a year, and although the features are really cool, the caller ID problem is a HUGE problem for me. I am the biggest call screener ever, so I rely on caller ID and call waiting caller ID both to screen calls but also to return calls at a later time. I would still say it only works about 60% of the time. The only slight correlation I have made is to cell calls. Some cell calls come through fine, but others don't register at all - but of course not one particular cell number all the time... For the price of this phone, I expected the basic phone functions to work 100% of the time with the addition of some fun features. Unfortunately, what I got (both times) was a fun feature loaded phone with poor functionality. I am now looking at another panasonic (which I have had excellent experience with in the past).
Try replacing battery after ~1.5 years March 15, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Purchased base and 2 extensions to use in our 3-story + basement house. Great price for a very stylish and well-performing product. No range issues on any of the 3 main floors or even in the basement (the base is on the top-most floor!). However, after 1.5 years, started having the infamous "dropped call" issue almost simultaneously on all 3 phones! I thought I just needed new batteries, but after reading all of these horrible reviews, I started buying into the idea that maybe I'd bought an inherently flawed product! Since the battery replacements are relatively expensive ($16-$20, unless you can find a good ebay deal), I kept putting off just trying new batteries. Well, I just bought and tried 1 battery to test it out before buying an entirely new phone system - and YES - IT WORKED! I will see if this lasts for at least another 1.5 years before getting overly optimistic, but so far so good. I'm still a little skeptical as to why all 3 failed at the same time, since all phones are certainly not used equally as much in my house. But, I'm guessing the VTech batteries must have some flaw, as opposed to the actual phone. I purchase a Radio Shack battery as a replacement, so I'm hopeful that a different brand may have a better lifespan than the VTech ones.
