The MDR-W08L headphones fit inside the ear for jostle-free listening. Created for active listeners, these headphones are better held in place with the wide, over-the-head headband. They are extremely lightweight (.5 ounces) and will provide hours of comfortable listening. Sony uses 13.5 mm driver units in these headphones. While lightweight and small enough to fit inside the ear, they also deliver a good bass sound and wide frequency range (down to 20 Hz.) Neodymium magnets give the headphones maximum energy at a minimal size and weight. The open-air design allows for ambient noise to enter the ear, a safe feature for exercisers as you will hear car horns, passing bikers and dog barks. These sound infinitely better than the ear buds that come with the IPODS plus they don't fall out of your ears like the buds. A few years ago I did pull one of the wires out so you do have to be a little careful with them. Plus they only cost $9.99.

I listen to classical music for hours at work and want high fidelity and comfort. The Sony MDR-W08l headset is the lightest and most comfortable to wear for a long time. It does not isolate me from conversation. I generally buy 2 at a time. One set lasts for about a year.

As a runner, I need lightweight headphones that don't jump/move/jar around. I hate ear buds (hate them!) as they are seemingly designed for people w/LARGE ear holes! These things are tiny, fit nicely IN your ear and provide great sound without annoying you on a long run! The price is fabulous too! Last time I ordered, I bought 4 pairs (whenever I like something it seems to be discontinued) and I just broke into pair #2 this week (after almost a year w/the others). I've run in these for 3 half marathons and countless training runs, inside and out. If I wouldn't wad them up and throw them in my gym bag, they'd probably last even longer, but eventually one side tends to give out.

This is the second pair of Sony MDr-W08L's I have purchased and actually bought 2 this time so I would have an extra set. They are great for use during workouts as they don't fall out of your ears like earbuds do but they are still very lightweight. Great bass and sound. Can't beat the price either!
 cord too short for the gym!! September 15, 2008
I bought these to use on the cardio equipment at the gym. The cord that plugs into the gym/tv system attached to the machines is too short. It pulls out--or off my head--if I move too fast on the treadmill or elliptical machines.
It's fine for a music player attached to my waist.
