Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
This Sony CPA-9C connects your portable MD or CD player to your car stereo, through the car's in-dash cassette player. It's ideal for use with Sony MiniDisc and Discman CD players. CPA-9C's silent mechanism reduces mechanical noise on the road. And the self-adjusting spring-loaded head maintains optimum contact with your cassette deck's tape head.

Amazon.com Product Description
The Sony CPA-9C cassette adaptor allows you to connect your minidisc or CD player to a vehicle cassette player. While this Sony product works best with Sony CD and MD players, the adaptor will operate with non-Sony products as well. There are a couple of key features to this adaptor which make it a fine choice. The first notable feature is the spring-loaded head. The head will automatically adjust itself to your vehicle's cassette deck, ensuring that the two heads have optimum contact and transfer the best possible sound. The second key feature is the silent mechanism. A silent mechanism yields less operational noise and a better quality MD or CD sound. This adaptor works with all cassette players which require you to insert the tape opening facing the side. The mini-plug inserts into a portable CD or MD headphone jack. The cassette adaptor is a cheap way to make your vehicle CD and MD operational.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Product   September 30, 2008
This works excellent for my ipod in my old car.Great sound quality with little inconvinience. If you want to play your ipod on the older car models, possible 2007 or older, this is the product you want to buy,and it is not expensive either!.

4 out of 5 stars Works well in my car   August 28, 2008
I use this during long trips in my car to plug my laptop in to the car's tape player, and listen to iTunes music over the car's speakers. It sounds better than live radio or cassette tapes.

I haven't had any problems with it, as long as you don't insert it into the tape player upside-down (it seems to work only in one direction, so you might need to hit the Side-A/Side-B button on the car's tape player to see which direction is correct). Sometimes you need to jiggle it to get it aligned properly when you first insert it into the cassette player, but after that, it works well, with very clean sound.

5 out of 5 stars Sony Cassette Adapter is great   August 15, 2008
It works great. Easy as pie. Much better than my FM transmitter, which runs down batteries way too fast, and is never clear, always staticky. This is clear as can be, and all you have to do is put the tape in the tape player and plug it up to your mp3 player, etc. I'm very happy with this inexpensive and easy product. :)

4 out of 5 stars Sony CPA-9C   August 14, 2008
While its not unusual for cars nowadays to have a plug for an iPod, my 7 year old BMW didn't have one. I was faced with the option of retrofitting one (which was possible and would allow the steering wheel controls to control the iPod) or simply using the Sony CPA-9C to go via the on board tape deck (and not be able to manipulate the iPod from the steering wheel). The Sony option was 20x cheaper! At that price it was worth just trying it out.

I have to say it works really well. Putting the iPod volume higher than 3/4 causes distortion, but I find I can permanently leave it at 1/2 and the BMW radio amplification is more than sufficient even when you really want it loud. A small amount of engine whine comes through, but only on really soft parts - and I can't say the quality of the BMW sound system is good enough to make one really care. Otherwise sound quality is fine, and is close to the quality of the on board CD player.

All in all, a really good value for money purchase and I would recommend it to anyone. Even if you decide on a more expensive option, this one's so cheap it warrants a try.

1 out of 5 stars Doesn't work with Toyota Camry   August 6, 2008
This product does NOT work in a Toyota Camry cassette player. Thumbs down. Sound will get through but loud clicking noises predominate and destroy any usefulness whatsoever.
