Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Take the guesswork out of ultrasonic distance measuring! Laser pinpoints target area for accuracy. Measures 18in. to 60 feet with accuracy up to 99.5%

Amazon.com Review
Just stand where you are, point, and press a button. That's all it takes to accurately measure distances up to 60 feet with the Sonin Range Finder. It uses ultrasonic technology, and the manufacturer says it's accurate to within 99.5 percent, plus or minus a 1/4 inch. The unit sends out narrow beams of sound waves that bounce off solid objects back to the handheld receiver. A microprocessor converts elapsed time into a distance measurement and displays it on the LCD. It also will add, subtract, figure area and volume, and store seven measurements for you with recall. We gave the Sonin a good workout, checking all kinds of dimensions and getting tape-measure-accurate results every time. Truth be told, we kept measuring things even after we knew we'd tested enough--just because it was fun. The Sonin unit runs on a 9-volt battery (it would be a nice touch if one were included) and supremely user-friendly instructions. The nine-button keypad is not intimidating, even for the mathematically challenged. There's a one-year warranty, something we always like to see, as well as a handy pouch. --Kris Jensen-Van Heste

3 out of 5 stars Does what it's supposed to   August 26, 2008
This product does not have as many features as some of its competitors, but it does what it says it will do.

3 out of 5 stars Doesn't meet specs.   August 23, 2008
I was very interested in this device to remove any errors from outdoor measurements exceeding 25'. After receipt I tried a few measurements indoors and got error messages for anything over about 15'. After checking the battery and discovering it was questionable I replaced it with a new "Energizer" and tried it outdoors measuring distance
from my garage door. I could only manage about 28', any-
thing longer gave error 1 messages. Not quite the 60' claimed!Sonin 10075 Laser Target Range Finder

1 out of 5 stars Worthless   July 8, 2008

Despite the word "laser" being used in a rather deceptive manner in this product's name, it uses ultrasound technology, not laser, to determine the measurements; the laser is just there to... er... what is it there for? Aiming the "sonic beam"? Yeah, right. It's there to justify the use of the word "laser" in the product name, and that's about it.
The joke is that you don't have to spend that much more to get a real laser tape measure that works well, like the CST/Stanley 77-910 TLM100 FatMax Tru-Laser 1/4-Inch at 100 Feet Laser Measurer.
Don't waste your money on this useless product.

5 out of 5 stars Great Distance Measurer   December 31, 2007

After reading reviews on several distance measuring devices, I chose to try this Sonin unit, even though there were several concerns about accuracy. The unit has been well within my need for accurate measures of room dimensions, ceiling heights and even measurements of up to 40 feet. Great time-saving device and beats the standard tape measure.

2 out of 5 stars Not Very Accurate   December 12, 2005

I was a bit deceived when I saw this. It says "Laser Target Range Finder" and would have you beleive it actually uses a laser to measure. It doesn't. It uses ultrasound with a laser sight. Ultrasound is very imprecise. It expands like a cone so at 60 feet your target is several feet across.

Read the accuracy on this, 99.5% +/- 1/4" What that means is at 60 ft. you could get an error of almost 4". Instead, get a true laser measure, that are now available for under $100. They are accurate to +/- 1/4" at 100 ft. Do the math. That's almost 16 times as accurate.
