Amazon.com Review With unsurpassed sucking power and the convenience of cordless, Black & Decker's 14.4-Volt Cyclonic DustBuster is a great vacuum to have around the house, shop or office. Cyclonic Action circulates dirt and debris in the bowl and around the filter, allowing air to pass through the machine with no reduction in suction power. With the filtration system running so efficiently, the DustBuster has more power and more run time than any other cordless, hand held vacuum. The translucent bowl let's you see the dirt moving around the filter, so you know when it's time to empty the collection bin. No more handling dirty filters, when its time to clean, simply turn the Filter Cleaning Wheel to shake off fine debris. That simple action increases suction power by 80 percent! A quick-slide charging base mounts on the wall for easy access and quick response to tracked-in mud, spilt cereal, and more! --Brian Olson

Awesome October 1, 2008 This product is amazing. I have used it for 2 years with no problems at all... I had to clean up some tile dust and bits and it sucked the dirt very fast. It is a very good product
great cleaner September 30, 2008 This dust buster is easy to use and does a great job picking up the little stuff from the bare floor or from the rug.
Weak suction September 27, 2008 Maybe something is wrong with my vac, but the suction powerful is extremely weak. I can barely pick up human hair... Very disappointed.
early battery failure September 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Battery died in just over 2 years. Happens to be just out of warranty. The problem? The charger never shuts off. Standard Nicad's cannot be left on continuous charge. They are not rated for such service. The Nicad's are ruined fast. Do check the current of the ac adapter though. The old ones were 300ma and were killing batteries fast. The new ones are 130ma and seem to last longer. Seemingly 5 years. But remember that nicads when taken care of will last a decade or the life of the machine.
B&D should be sued September 9, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The CHV1400 14.4-Volt Cyclonic DustBuster is supposedly designed to leave on charge, but it has two large NiCd (nickel cadmium) batteries. Keeping these batteries always charging causes them to almost die in less than a year. That's when the fun begins.
First of all, I could not get them out. After an hour of frustration it became apparent that they will not come out unless I broke the plastic housing holding them. Both nickel and cadmium are toxic heavy metals. The owner's manual acknowledges this, and that the batteries are not to be disposed of, they are to be recycled. Shame on Black and Decker for designing a product which uses batteries that they know will harm the environment, yet cannot be removed for recycling. This is the stuff class action lawsuits are based on, and B&D has gone out of its way to invite one.
Second, as noted in other reviews, I am unable to get replacement batteries even if I wanted to, without paying almost as much as the vacuum itself. I did find some, but the price was wicked expensive. B&D has built a product based on the marketing principle of "planned obsolescence," meaning the product is designed to be replaced after a relatively short life, instead of repaired. American automobile manufacturers developed the concept in the '60s, refined it to a fine art form in the '70s, and are still paying for their stupidity today. Those firms who do not learn from the past will have to repeat their mistakes until they get it right, or go out of business.
