4 out of 5 stars Great silent keyboard   July 14, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

I ordered this product because I needed a silent keyboard for my dorm room-- my typing and tapping on my last dell standard keyboard would sometimes bother my roommate at night when she was trying to sleep. This keyboard is perfect for the job-- the short keys have just enough bounce to them to feel secure and definite when you press them so you know you've hit the key, and it's very quiet. It's also very small and saves a lot of desk space. And since I have little hands, it's perfect. I don't know how it would be for people with bigger hands.
The arrangement of keys might throw some people off: The delete, home, page-up, page-down, and end keys are arranged vertically next to the backspace/enter/shift keys, and might take getting used to for people who don't look at their keys when they type (like me). There's also an extra "\" key left of the spacebar that I'm not sure why it was put there and I sometimes press it by mistake, but I really don't find it to be a big enough deal to grade down much on it.

I've had this for about a month and a half now, and I've noticed the "S" key has started to wear off a little bit, but since I don't look at my keys to type, that doesn't really make a difference to me either. I also had an instance where the "k" key would stick and would not type unless I hit it several times very hard. I solved that problem by popping of they key and then putting it back in. Was not difficult. Works perfectly.

I've read a few reviews of people complaining about the supposed chrome border rubbing off after resting their hands on it for so long. I have a wrist support in front of mine, and the keyboard is so thin and short that the wrist support is higher than the bottom of the keyboard, so my hands never touch the chrome at the bottom anyway. And besides, why are you judging a keyboard by its aesthetics if the rest of its design works perfectly fine?

Overall, the keyboard has a few quirks that can take getting used to, but it's worth the money, and I love this keyboard. No extra bells and whistles that I don't need and will never use, just a plain, straight-forward, silent and functional, comfortable keyboard for a decent price. Well done, Kensington!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome Keyboard - Awesome Price   July 11, 2008

I got this keyboard because I work in an office and you do not have your own cubicle. Everytime you go to work you just sit at an empty one and most of the time the keyboard and mouse on the computers are horrible. I got this keyboard and its nice and thin and very quiet. No complaints.

5 out of 5 stars Superior Layout   June 24, 2008

The Kensington keyboard layout is about as tidy and compact as possible in a full featured board with numerical pad. Typing is smooth and uncramped. The keyboard is slim, but seems ruggedly built and of high quality. Attractive design and minimal footprint makes for a clear improvement over traditional standard keyboards.

4 out of 5 stars Great buy, but look at pics - layout takes some getting used to.   June 19, 2008

I originally bought this just looking for a quieter keyboard and it was the right price. It is indeed much quieter (but not silent) than a standard keyboard, and looks nice. I am fond of products that support hot-plugging as well. I would recommend this keyboard to anyone really, BUT, if you're not used to the slim type "travel" keyboards, make sure you take a close look at the key layout. I never had a keyboard with this setup before and since I am used to working 10-hour days on my full-sized Logitech keyboard, it had quite a steep learning curve. I am still a month later losing the backspace key and accidentally hitting the delete key. The arrow keys are placed in an odd location, though thats not TOO hard to get used to. The left alt key took some real getting used to though, as well as the F-keys. I am STRONGLY advising against trying to play pc games with this (personally I use the F-keys, alt-tab, alt-shift, and arrow keys very often). This has nowhere near the preferred gaming setup.

Learning curve aside, the keys feel nice and solid, and the silver lining is gorgeous. If you are finicky about your keyboard getting dirty, you might want to grab some extra wipes for this one ... the silver gets all 'finger printy' pretty easily (probably due to my stubborn, lost fingers). The submitted photos are very helpful, I thank the user who submitted them and highly suggest taking a good look at them if you intend to purchase this keyboard--gamers in particular.

4 out of 5 stars Okay for the price   May 29, 2008

It is more like a laptop keyboard than a regular PC keyboard which may have been stated in the description. I wouldn't have purchased it if I was aware because it is harder to type on than a typical PC keyboard that has the keys more defined.
