| Customer Reviews:
Simple June 4, 2008 I had read some problems with people not being able to get the connection to work the first time. I am either a lucky one or lightning DOES strike twice because I was able to do 2 of these with zero problems. The software is a small learning curve but if your used to drag and drop it shouldn't be to hard. There really isn't else much to it. The menu on the unit is really simple and you just need to pay attention to which button on top your pressing as you go through it. Clicking between photos is as easy as one touch. In this one you get what you pay for, not much more and def nothing less.
Bought 4, 1 dead June 4, 2008 I bought 4 of these for Mothers Day gifts. One of them had to be returned since it was DOA. The other three all worked with my PC once I downloaded the latest driver from the COBY website. Unfortunately, most of my images are on my Mac using iPhoto. I never could get these to work on my Mac, so I simply copied them over to a network drive and used their driver/software under Parallels. That worked great. Too bad that I couldn't get it to work on my Mac though. Also, the images once transferred over aren't the best quality, but what do you expect for that price?
I will say that all the people that received them as gifts were tickled. They just loved the key chain pre-loaded with images.
It's cute June 2, 2008 It's a nice little gift. The images are slighly grainy, but its a cute thing to have on your keychain.
Neat little gadget June 2, 2008 My wife likes being able to take pictures of the grand-kids along instead of a bulky photo album. I had a little trouble uploading the pictures but then I am 64 and tech challenged. The pictures are rather small but my wife is satisfied and when she is, I am. For the money, a neat little gadget.
Coby tiny digital picture frame. June 2, 2008 It's really, really portable. So, if the pictures are tiny, you got something for it. The device is nearly feature free. The images must fit the screen. There's no zoom or pan. And, the device is really cheap.
It's billed as a keychain device. However, no case is supplied, and your keys would scratch the plastic screen pretty much instantly. My advice, take the keychain off. It comes off easily.
Despite being a USB device, you can't just plug it in and have it mount as a file system. You must use the supplied software. Supplied software supports Mac and Windows. There is no Linux support. This is a deal breaker for Linux geeks. The supplied software is so-so for Windows. It's a little quirky. My first attempt resulted in zero images loaded onto the device. You must fill up a queue and then upload them all at once. The software scales the images, and lets you crop them if they aren't the right aspect ratio. However, i found it better to get the aspect ratio right elsewhere first.
The other downside is that having to use proprietary software can limit the life of the device. The company could go out of business, the next version of Windows or MacOS could be incompatible, etc. Perhaps it's cheap enough, and you don't care.
There's a slide show mode, and the rate is settable.
I'd rather it didn't show the image number on the images. There are few enough pixels as it is.
I bought mine to give away as a gift to a deserving Windows user. But i've changed my mind, and will get her something she actually needs.
This isn't a five star review.
